Graffiti Removal on Aluminum & Vinyl Siding | GraffitiMobile
Graffiti removal on aluminum & vinyl siding · Greater Montreal

Graffiti on siding? Aluminum and vinyl are not cleaned like a masonry wall.

GraffitiMobile assessesgraffiti removal on aluminum siding, vinyl siding, exterior cladding and panels for businesses, buildings, industrial properties, condominiums and other properties. The material, existing finish, oxidation and condition of the panels determine the workable margin.

Recommended photos: a full view, a close-up of the graffiti and a clear photo of the profile, finish and joints.
    Aluminum vs vinyl

Same facade profile. Two very different materials.

Horizontal or vertical siding may look similar, but the material beneath the graffiti does not have the same hardness, finish or tolerance for products and abrasion.

    01

    Aluminum siding

Thin metal generally protected by a coloured finish. Over time, the surface can oxidize or become slightly chalky, which affects contrast after cleaning.

Existing finishThe colour or surface finish should remain as uniform as reasonably possible.
Oxidation / chalkingAn aged facade can leave a difference between the treated area and the rest.
ScratchesPainted metal can be marked by an overly abrasive method.
ProfileGrooves, folds and joints can retain pigment differently.
    02

    Vinyl siding

Vinyl is a coloured, profiled plastic material. It can be more sensitive to certain solvents, heat, scratches and the creation of an area that is shinier or duller.

Chemical compatibilityA product that works on metal may be unsuitable for PVC.
HeatA thermal or excessively hot approach should not be treated the same way as on masonry.
Micro-scratchesAn abraded area can become visible in reflected light.
Joints & siding boardsThe siding assembly system must remain intact.

Texture & finish The graffiti is visible. The ageing of the siding may be less obvious — until cleaning begins.
    The existing finish

The risk is not only removing too little. It is also removing too much.

On finished siding, colour, sheen and oxidation are already part of the building’s appearance. An overly aggressive intervention can create a contrast more noticeable than the remaining mark.

Principle The best reasonable result aims to reduce the graffiti without turning one panel into an area that is lighter, duller, shinier or more scratched than the rest of the facade.
    Age of the siding

A facade exposed for years may have lost some of its original sheen or colour.

    Oxidation & chalking

On some metal finishes, a powdery deposit or light oxidation may already alter the appearance.

    Existing scratches & dents

The existing condition of the siding must be distinguished from damage caused by the graffiti.

    Sun exposure

A facade that has faded unevenly may react differently from a less exposed area.

    Reasonable result

The building’s finish matters just as much as the disappearance of the graffiti.

Some surfaces allow for very clean removal. Others set a limit because continuing would create a difference in colour, sheen or texture.

Oxidized / chalking aluminumVisible ageing already present.
UniformityThe material may set the limit.
Overall appearanceA single over-cleaned area can stand out strongly.
Vinyl in good conditionSound plastic substrate.
    CompatibilityLimit chemicals and abrasion.
Colour & textureAvoid dulling, softening or micro-scratches.

    PreservationReduced working margin.
The assemblyCleaning should not become a new form of deterioration.
    Commercial applications

Siding is often the visible skin of the entire building.

Warehouses, businesses, industrial buildings and additions often use panels, siding boards or cladding that cover large surfaces. A poor difference in finish becomes immediately visible.

Multiple materials on the same building?

Aluminum at the entrance, brick on the facade, concrete in the garage and storefront glass at ground level can all remain under the same service request.

Exposed facade On a large finished surface, the result needs to work at the scale of the building — not just 30 cm from the graffiti.
    The result and the siding

Siding can be structurally intact yet visually delicate.

Cladding protects the building, but its visible layer is still a finish. That is the layer the client sees after the service.

    Oxidation can create contrast

Cleaning a small area of aged aluminum can reveal a different colour or sheen.

Vinyl is not a mineral surface

An approach that is acceptable on concrete can be far too aggressive on coloured PVC.

Joints are part of the system

Pressure and handling around overlaps, edges and openings need to remain controlled.

An already altered finish reduces the margin

Existing discolouration, scratches, chalking or cracks can set a reasonable limit on cleaning.

    FAQ · aluminum & vinyl

Frequently asked questions before sending photos.

Can graffiti be removed from aluminum siding?
Yes, in many situations, but the result depends on the finish, age of the siding, oxidation, type of graffiti paint and overall surface condition.
Is vinyl cleaned the same way as aluminum?
No. Vinyl is a plastic material that is more sensitive to certain solvents, heat and abrasives. The approach must be suited to the actual material.
How do I know whether my siding is aluminum or vinyl?
You do not need to identify it before contacting us. A full view, a close-up of the profile and a photo of the joints or edges are often enough to begin the assessment.
Can cleaning change the colour or sheen of siding?
Yes, especially on an aged, oxidized, chalking or already altered surface. A cleaned area can sometimes look different from the rest if the existing finish is fragile.
Can spray paint be removed from vinyl?
It is possible in some situations, but compatibility with the PVC, siding colour and condition needs to be considered before using a method or product.
Can you treat factory-painted aluminum siding?
Yes, depending on the condition of the siding and the type of graffiti. The existing finish coat should be preserved as much as reasonably possible.
    Is pressure washing alone enough?
Not necessarily. Pressure alone does not account for the pigment or fragility of the finish, and excessive pressure around joints or siding boards can create other problems.
What if the siding is already faded or oxidized?
The existing condition needs to be distinguished from the graffiti. An aged surface may have a smaller workable margin, and the result should be evaluated based on the overall appearance.
Can you begin the assessment from photos?
In many cases, yes. A full view, a close-up of the graffiti and a clear photo of the profile, finish and joints are enough to get started.
How much does graffiti removal from aluminum or vinyl siding cost?
The price depends on factors such as graffiti size, material, finish, height, access, siding condition and the realistic result to target.
