Horizontal or vertical siding may look similar, but the material beneath the graffiti does not have the same hardness, finish or tolerance for products and abrasion.
Thin metal generally protected by a coloured finish. Over time, the surface can oxidize or become slightly chalky, which affects contrast after cleaning.
Vinyl is a coloured, profiled plastic material. It can be more sensitive to certain solvents, heat, scratches and the creation of an area that is shinier or duller.
On finished siding, colour, sheen and oxidation are already part of the building’s appearance. An overly aggressive intervention can create a contrast more noticeable than the remaining mark.
A facade exposed for years may have lost some of its original sheen or colour.
On some metal finishes, a powdery deposit or light oxidation may already alter the appearance.
The existing condition of the siding must be distinguished from damage caused by the graffiti.
A facade that has faded unevenly may react differently from a less exposed area.
Some surfaces allow for very clean removal. Others set a limit because continuing would create a difference in colour, sheen or texture.
Warehouses, businesses, industrial buildings and additions often use panels, siding boards or cladding that cover large surfaces. A poor difference in finish becomes immediately visible.
Aluminum at the entrance, brick on the facade, concrete in the garage and storefront glass at ground level can all remain under the same service request.

Cladding protects the building, but its visible layer is still a finish. That is the layer the client sees after the service.
Cleaning a small area of aged aluminum can reveal a different colour or sheen.
An approach that is acceptable on concrete can be far too aggressive on coloured PVC.
Pressure and handling around overlaps, edges and openings need to remain controlled.
Existing discolouration, scratches, chalking or cracks can set a reasonable limit on cleaning.
