Graffiti Removal on Metal & Commercial Doors | GraffitiMobile
Graffiti removal on metal · Greater Montreal

Graffiti on a metal door? Metal is durable. Its finish is much less forgiving.

GraffitiMobile assessesgraffiti removal on commercial doors, roll-up shutters, painted steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, panels and metal equipment. The surface that often needs to be preserved is the paint, coating or grain of the metal — not just the metal underneath.

FINISH Paint or coating On most doors, the visible coating is more sensitive than the metal underneath.

    Surface types

“Metal” describes the substrate. Not the finish the customer sees.

A painted steel door, galvanized shutter and stainless steel panel can all be metal, but their appearance and workable margin differ greatly.

    01

    Painted steel door

The paint or industrial coating becomes the surface to preserve. Ageing, scratches and previous touch-ups matter.

Service doors · exits · technical entrances
    02

    Roll-up shutter / metal shutter

Grooves, slats, seals and mechanisms create a complex surface where pigment can collect in recessed areas.

Retail · garages · loading docks · warehouses
    03

    Galvanized steel

The zinc layer is part of the metal’s protection. It should not be treated as if it served no purpose.

    Panels · doors · equipment · fences
    04

    Stainless steel

The grain, brushing or polish of the metal is immediately visible. A scratch or dull area can stand out strongly.

Visible finish On a commercial door, colour, sheen and scratches are part of the result just as much as the graffiti itself.
    What needs to be preserved

The metal can survive a method that its finish cannot.

A steel door can be structurally very strong while having paint, powder coat or a brushed finish that marks easily.

Principle The best reasonable result aims to remove the graffiti without unnecessarily creating a stripped, dull, scratched or shinier area than the rest of the door.
    Paint or powder coat

The coating can soften, dull or transfer before all of the graffiti is removed.

    Rust & oxidation

An already corroded area does not behave like an intact finish and can limit the realistic result.

    Grooves & raised details

Shutters and ribbed doors can retain pigment in recesses and joints.

    Hardware & seals

Plastics, rubber, locks and electrical components can have a different tolerance than metal.

    Clean without refinishing the door

The result should remain consistent with the existing finish.

In some situations, graffiti can be removed very cleanly. In others, going too far would damage the paint or create a noticeable difference in sheen.

    Commercial applications

Doors and shutters are often among the first surfaces accessible from the street.

Service entrances, shutters, garage doors, panels and equipment are regularly targeted because they are flat, visible and directly accessible.

    Multiple doors or multiple properties?

A property portfolio can combine metal, brick, concrete, glazing and exterior siding. Requests can remain centralized.

    The result and the metal

    Durable does not mean indestructible.

The metal substrate can be strong, but the finish, galvanizing, seals and components around the door can impose a reasonable limit.

Paint can be more fragile than the graffiti

An old or poorly bonded coating can deteriorate before all of the pigment is removed.

Galvanized steel has its own protective layer

It should not be treated as if the underlying metal could simply be exposed without consequence.

Stainless steel can be visibly scratched

Grain, brushing and reflected light make defects more visible.

Mechanisms remain within the work area

Locks, seals, motors, sensors and tracks must remain functional and compatible with the service.

FAQ · metal & commercial doors

Frequently asked questions before sending photos.

Can graffiti be removed from a metal commercial door?
Yes, in many situations. The result mainly depends on the type of metal, the existing paint or coating, the pigment and the overall condition of the door.
Is a painted steel door cleaned the same way as bare metal?
No. On a painted door, the finish becomes the surface to preserve. A method that is acceptable on bare metal can remove, dull or soften the paint.
Can you remove graffiti from a garage door or roll-up shutter?
Yes, depending on the finish and condition of the shutter or door. Grooves, seals, tracks and mechanisms around the area must also be considered.
    What about galvanized steel?
Galvanized steel has a zinc layer that is part of its protection. The service should avoid treating this layer like ordinary bare metal.
Can cleaning change the sheen of a painted door?
Yes. On an old, oxidized or sensitive finish, an area cleaned too aggressively can become duller, shinier or lighter than the rest.
Can you work around handles, locks and seals?
Yes, but these components are often made from different materials. Locks, seals, rubber, plastics and electrical components must be protected or treated carefully.
Is pressure washing alone enough on a metal door?
Not necessarily. Pressure alone does not account for the pigment, coating, seals or mechanisms and may be unsuitable for some doors.
Can graffiti be removed from stainless steel?
In some situations, yes. The grain and finish of the metal need to be preserved while avoiding scratches or a visibly different area.
Can you begin the assessment from photos?
In many cases, yes. A full view, a close-up of the graffiti and a clear photo of the finish, grooves and adjacent components are enough to get started.
How much does graffiti removal from metal or a commercial door cost?
The price depends on factors such as graffiti size, metal type, existing coating, access, height, surface condition and the realistic result to target.
